DNS Configuration in the 5G System

DNS server configuration of the 5G system is an important part of enabling internet connectivity and proper functionality of some applications for the UEs.

Configuring the IP address for the domain name system (DNS) server is an important aspect of setting up the overall 5G system. The DNS stores the IP addresses corresponding to domain names used for servers, programs, or services.

In some cases, different applications or programs used in the OT domain can only be configured with domain names on the client side, rather than the IP addresses of the services. In such cases, an IP address for the DNS server must be configured in the 5G system to resolve the domain name to the corresponding service IP address. Additionally, configuring the DNS server IP address may be necessary to enable internet connectivity for the UEs.

The DNS server IP address can usually be configured within the 5G system management tool. Depending on the 5G system, the connection to the DNS server may need to be established via a wired connection to the 5G core interface. In other cases, the DNS server may be connected to a UE.
