Therefore, 5G-ACIA and 5GMF have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU). This will serve as a formalized basis to cooperate over and build a successful global ecosystem for industrial wireless communications. As partners, 5G-ACIA and 5GMF aim at driving forward various activities, such as identifying common topics of interest, cross-inviting representatives to meetings and events, notifying each other of new public information, and develop joint marketing and promotion activities. In addition, the partners plan mutual status updates and alignments on their leadership levels, which is the Chairpersons, Secretaries and Working Group Chairs.
Dr. Andreas Mueller (Bosch), General Chair of 5G-ACIA, states: “We are delighted to expand our global partner network in Japan with the MoU that we have just signed with 5GMF. Japan in general and 5GMF in particular have been early drivers for the research, standardization, development and adoption of 5G. At the same time, Japan is a leading player in industrial automation and has a significant manufacturing industry. Therefore, we look very much forward to strengthen the footprint of 5G-ACIA in Japan and to join forces with 5GMF in order to jointly unlock the huge potential that 5G will bring to the industrial domain and beyond.”
Prof. Emeritus Susumu Yoshida, Chairman of 5GMF Japan stated “We are great honor to agree the MoU for the cooperation on industrial wireless commnications between 5G-ACIA and 5GMF. It will be necessary for peple all over the world to make 5G available, enrich the lives of individuals and solve various social issues by utilizing 5G as a social infrastructure. The collaboration with 5G-ACIA is expected to bring about great success to realize global ecosystem.”The original planned 5G-ACIA Plenary Meeting and joint Workshop in Tokyo has been postponed from March 2020 to next year in July 2021 due to the global epidemics and impact of COVID-19.
About 5G-ACIA
The 5G Alliance for Connected Industries and Automation (5G-ACIA) is the central global forum for shaping industrial 5G standards. 5G-ACIA members jointly prepare for the disruptive change 5G will bring, promote a better understanding of industrial needs, and gain insights into a highly attractive emerging market. 5G-ACIA provides a unique global platform for OT and ICT companies, academia, and all relevant stakeholders to influence 5G development and deployment in line with industrial imperatives. They make the results of their work directly available to 3GPP, the main standardization body for developing 5G. 5G-ACIA is a market representation partner of 3GPP and has the formal status of a working party of ZVEI e.V.
About 5GMF:
The objectives of the Fifth Generation Mobile Communications Promotion Forum (5GMF) are to conduct research & development concerning Fifth Generation Mobile Communications Systems and research and study pertaining to standardization thereof, along with acting as a liaison and coordinating with related organizations, collecting information, and promoting education and awareness about Fifth Generation Mobile Communications Systems aimed at the early realization thereof, all with the aim of thereby contributing to the sound development of the use of telecommunications. 5GMF achieved the first goal to realize 5G in japan on March 2020. The second goal is to deploy 5G in all of Japan and promote 5G utilization globally on individuals, industries and reginal area as private network which we call “Local 5G”. 5GMF would like to continue to enforce strongly “Crossover Collaboration” as a promotion method.
