- The so-called “industrial frequency” of 3.7 – 3.8 GHz is temporarily licensed by the German
Federal Network Agency (BNetzA) for 5G-ACIA - For the first time Industrial 5G at ACHEMA is accompanied by live industrial applications
Frankfurt/Main (Germany) August 17, 2022 – At ACHEMA, the world-leading trade show for the process industry, a live private 5G network setup will be showcased at the booth of the 5G Alliance for Connected Industries and Automation (5G-ACIA). The private 5G network is set up in collaboration with Fraunhofer IPT and Ericsson. The live private 5G network and the live exhibitions from various 5G-ACIA members, including AI-Link, Bosch, Ericsson, Fraunhofer IPT, HMS Networks, Keysight, Phoenix Contact and Qualcomm, can be viewed at ACHEMA in Frankfurt, Germany, from August 22 to 26 at the
5G-ACIA booth in Hall 11, Booth E3.
ACHEMA is the world forum for chemical engineering, process engineering and biotechnology. The world’s leading show for the process industry is organized by DECHEMA e.V. and takes place every three years in Frankfurt. The spectrum ranges from laboratory equipment, pumps, and analytical devices to packaging machinery, boilers and stirrers to safety technology, materials, and software, thus covering all the demands of the chemical, pharmaceutical and food production industries. The accompanying congress, featuring scientific lectures and numerous guest and partner events, complements the wide range of exhibition themes.
Dr. Andreas Mueller, General Chair of 5G-ACIA:
“I am very pleased that we are showing a live private 5G network as well as various use cases and demos at this year’s ACHEMA for the very first time for three main reasons: Firstly, it reflects the huge progress that has been made related to Industrial 5G in the last couple of years and that we are now moving from theory to practice. Secondly, it provides visitors an idea how easy it can be to set up a private 5G network, and thirdly, it is an excellent example for the fruitful collaboration between different companies in 5G-ACIA. Because after all, this is exactly what 5G-ACIA is all about: Providing a platform for the OT and ICT industries to jointly drive, shape and explore the full potential of Industrial 5G in different areas.”
Dr. Björn Mathes, Member of the Executive Board of DECHEMA Ausstellungs-GmbH:
“Modular and connected production is one of the focal topics of this year’s ACHEMA. In terms of connectivity and data exchange 5G plays a crucial role. Real-time data exchange makes chemical and pharmaceutical plants more efficient, assists with hazardous work, and will keep the process industry at the forefront of digital technologies. Besides substantial benefits in the monitoring and maintenance of production facilities, the 5G technology will also help to improve supply chain processes. We are very pleased to show this 5G pilot operation to the international process industry community. “
Niels König, coordinator of 5G Industry Campus Europe, Fraunhofer IPT:
“We want to show companies that it is possible to configure, operate and manage a 5G network in the simplest way. Private 5G networks are very attractive for manufacturing companies because they offer 5G performance that matches the challenges of production – without compromise.”

About 5G-ACIA
The 5G Alliance for Connected Industries and Automation (5G-ACIA) is the central global forum for shaping Industrial 5G. 5G-ACIA members jointly prepare for the disruptive changes that 5G will bring, promote a better understanding of industrial needs, and gain insights into a highly attractive emerging market. 5G-ACIA provides a unique platform for OT and ICT companies, academia, and all relevant stakeholders to influence 5G developments, in line with industrial imperatives. The currently roughly 100 member organizations make the results of their work directly available to 3GPP, the main standardization body for developing 5G. 5G-ACIA is a market representation partner of 3GPP and has the formal status of a working party of ZVEI e.V.
