International Interoperability of Industrial 5G

This Testbed investigates cross-border interoperability of industrial 5G devices, focusing on real-world performance, reliability, scalability, and heterogeneous network integration

Testbed 016, “International Interoperability of Industrial 5G,” explores real-world integration of German and Japanese 5G industrial devices across diverse network environments. Led by DEMAG, NICT, and ifak the testbed evaluates connectivity, performance, and scalability in critical Industry 4.0 use cases such as material handling and factory logistics. Devices are deployed in each other’s national networks to address interoperability in multi-vendor, multi-region scenarios. The Smart Resource Flow (SRF) framework is also tested, demonstrating its ability to switch between public and private 5G networks seamlessly, maintaining connectivity without interruptions and enhancing overall communication reliability in industrial applications.

I believe that this initiative between Germany and Japan has demonstrated the potential for companies from both countries to expand their business globally using L5G, which has different frequency bands assigned to it in both countries. I would also like to treasure the connections between Germany and Japan that were made in the process of building this testbed.
