5G for Industrial IoT: RedCap and Machine Vision in Focus
The web seminar will take place on 09 July 2025 | 10:00–11:00 CET.
PART 1
Reduced Capability (RedCap) for Industrial IoT
Speaker: Johan Bergman, Master Researcher, Ericsson
Moderator: Andrea D’Aquino, Infineon, 5G-ACIA WG4 Chair
Reduced Capability (RedCap) is a new feature in the 5G standard designed to support a wide range of Industrial IoT applications requiring lower complexity, reduced bandwidth, and extended battery life—without compromising reliability.
PART 2
Machine Vision in Industrial Applications with 5G
Speaker: Joao Lopes, Technical Project Manager, NXP
Moderator: Andrea D’Aquino, Infineon, 5G-ACIA WG4 Chair
Machine vision in manufacturing environments demands high availability and substantial bandwidth. The integration of 5G and edge computing is key to addressing these challenges, enabling real-time capabilities and more flexible deployment of vision systems. This session explores how 5G networks can meet the strict communication and control-loop requirements of industrial use cases. It highlights how the transition from wired to wireless—supported by compatibility with established machine vision standards—can help accelerate the adoption of 5G in automated production systems.
By enabling pre- and post-processing tasks to be offloaded to edge or cloud infrastructures, and by allowing tailored bandwidth management based on application needs, 5G creates a solid foundation for high-performance, vision-assisted automation.
