Reliable and Smart Industrial Connectivity: DetNet and ISAC over 5G
The web seminar will take place on 16 July 2025 | 10:00–11:00 CET.
PART 1
DetNet-based Deterministic IP Communication Over a 5G Network for Industrial Applications
Speaker: Marilet De Andrade Jardim, Master Researcher, Ericsson
Moderator: Andrea D’Aquino, Infineon, 5G-ACIA WG4 Chair
Deterministic Networking (DetNet) is a promising development in IP-based communication, offering time-sensitive features essential for industrial applications. Originating from the IETF DetNet Working Group, this technology adds Layer 3 determinism and aims to complement existing IEEE 802.1 TSN mechanisms. This session will outline DetNet’s architecture, highlight its integration with 5G, and assess how it can interconnect TSN domains or support edge-based industrial control scenarios.
Participants will gain insights into DetNet’s current capabilities as outlined in recent 3GPP Release 18 developments, its applicability to real-world industrial use cases, and the ongoing standardization challenges—particularly regarding the controller plane.
PART 2
Use Cases and Requirements for Integrated Sensing and Communication (ISAC) in Connected Industries and Automation
Speaker: Hanwen Cao, Principal Engineer, Huawei
Moderator: Andrea D’Aquino, Infineon, 5G-ACIA WG4 Chair
Integrated Sensing and Communication (ISAC) represents a significant step forward in the evolution of mobile networks. By enabling joint data transmission and environmental sensing, ISAC opens new horizons for connected industries. This session presents emerging ISAC technologies, standardization activities, and a curated set of industrial use cases.
Attendees will learn about five concrete industrial applications, including detailed performance and functional requirements. Emphasis will be placed on measurement accuracy, latency, and the importance of defining robust sensing metrics. ISAC’s potential to deliver not just communication but also situational awareness through the same 5G infrastructure marks it as a key enabler for future industrial innovation.
PART 3
